David Sheepshanks is Chairman of St George’s Park (previously known as The FA’s National Football Centre) which encompasses FA Learning (the educational arm responsible for coach education). Today he is best known for his extensive career in Football, serving The FA, The Football League and Ipswich Town over the last 25 years. He is a previous Chairman of the Football League, was a long serving member of FA Board and FL Board and former Chairman of Ipswich Town Football Club. David was elected to the Ipswich Town Board in 1987 and served as Chairman from 1995-2009, leading the sale of the Club to Marcus Evans in December 2007.
His business background was in the food industry including Starfish Ltd and Suffolk Foods Ltd, both of which he started and later sold, and local radio (he was a Director of Radio Orwell/SGR and Chairman of Vibe FM). His experience and connections are widespread and his current business interests include being a Regional Chairman of Coutts Bank and various Consultancies include Onside Law (specialists in sports law), 21st Club (specialist providers of digital programmes to the sports business sector) and AGL (specialists in communication effectiveness).
In the charitable world, he is Chairman of UK Community Foundations, the national organisation for the 46 Community Foundations enabling funding support for local community causes throughout the UK. Previously he was a founding trustee and Chairman of Suffolk Community Foundation (2005-2013) and the Ipswich Town Charitable Trust (1998-2009).
David was awarded the CBE in January 2013 for services to football and local charity, an Honorary Doctorate from the University of East Anglia in 2004 for services to the community and made a Fellow of Burton and South Derbyshire College in 2012.
